How to Build a Luxe Wardrobe on Sale

Hi Everyone,

Woop whoop it’s officially Summer sale time! Do you embrace the sales and look for a good bargain, or shy away and prefer to wait for the new season stock to come in?Whatever the answer I’ve got news for you.

It’s time to turn sale time into the best shopping experience you’ve ever had.

However definitely not by simply looking for the best bargain you can find. Believe me, these often end up being a “false economy of scale”. Very cheap but you never wear it!

Sale time is the time to buy timeless classics which are well made. These are pieces you will keep for many years. They continue to look and make you feel great whenever you wear them.

The trick is to find a boutique which has good quality items on sale. Today I’m going to showcase 4 types of outfits I recommend buying in the 2025 Summer Sales and why. The particular looks I am showcasing  are currently available on sale in a lovely boutique right in the heart of Zurich, just off Bahnhofstr: Boutique Tops.

Here are 4 tips for buying right on sale, along with outfit examples.

  1. Go for monochrome

Monochrome has been a fashionista favourite these past fashion weeks. However more than that monochrome outfits seriously never date and always have that sense of being a well put together expensive outfit.

When buying a monochrome outfit be sure to buy both pieces together. Even if you think you have a top or bottom the same colour at home I can almost guarantee the shade will be slightly different. Or else the cut will not make the outfit quite as polished as you imagined.

2) The extra long coat/shirt

The first mistake many make when they see a long shirt/coat, like the one I am wearing here, is thinking it needs to be look good as a dress.

This is not a dress and probably will be the wrong length to look good as a dress. However it looks fabulous worn over long trousers. This is one of the chicest timeless outfits you can add to your wardrobe.

Wear the coat/dress open with a tight tank top underneath, or keep the top buttons closed and the rest open as I have done. This is a particularly thankful look for those with wider hips or pear shaped bodies as it has the tendency to elongate your silhouette.

It’s also handy for over swimwear at the beach, or to wear over shorts. One piece you will be wondering how you ever coped without, once you try it out. It also looks great on shorter people!

3) Matching top and skirt sets in a new colour

It is usual for us to stick to a colour palette we know and are comfortable with in our wardrobe. Colours we simply know look good on us and – let’s face it – that blend in with what everyone else is wearing.

However adding an outfit of a new, unusual colour, to your wardrobe will bring so much more value and use than you can imagine. It is these colours that then create a really unique you.

Be sure not to buy one new colour piece by itself as chances are far too high that once you get home you’ll realise that shade of colour doesn’t go with anything else you own – even if in your mind you thought it would. I’ll confess to speaking from experience here – smile! You can still wear each piece individually. This green for example looks particularly fresh when teamed with dark blue denim.

4) An outfit with an unusual twist

Loving the pleated detail at the back of the jacket of this outfit.

Unusual details are also something we don’t normally opt for our wardrobes, yet if you find one that suits you, you really should grab it. These pieces don’t date and always add a special touch to any outfit.

This two piece trouser suit in camel is a fabulous spring/summer basic with just a little edge to it. It looks great teamed with black or/and white accessories.
